The Volkswagen Group 3.0-litre six-cylinder Generation 2 TDi common-rail engines use a chain drive to an idler gear located in the cylinder head. The drive is then transferred by gears to the camshafts. The camshaft gears feature a spring-loaded split design that must be realigned during disassembly to allow correct reassembly. The Laser 9403 split camshaft gear alignment pins are designed to help the user align the gear halves before dismantling, making reassembly easier.
